Polymer‑Cement Waterproof Coating (JS Coating) Construction Method for Bathroom Waterproofing

1. Base Surface Treatment

  1. The bathroom base surface shall be firm and solid. Remove dust, oil stains, release agent and loose sanding parts. Repair holes, cracks and grooved areas with polymer cement mortar for compaction and leveling.
  2. Chisel and clean the surroundings of pipe roots and floor drains, then repair compactly. Form R20‑R30 mm rounded corners at internal corners without sharp edges.
  3. Construction is allowed on damp substrate, but no standing water is permitted. Apply interface agent to reinforce severely sanding base surfaces.

2. Additional Layers for Key Details

Locations: internal corners, floor drains, pipe roots, through‑wall sleeves and door sills between wet and dry zones. Width of additional layer ≥250 mm. Two‑coat‑one‑fabric method is optional: apply a thin coat of JS coating, lay non‑woven fabric, ensure full saturation without hollowing and wrinkles, then apply another coat to cover the fabric after surface‑dry.

Special reinforcement shall be carried out around pipe roots and floor drains, which are high‑risk leakage points.

3. Large‑Area Coating Construction

  1. Weigh liquid component and powder component according to product mixing ratio. Stir by electric mixer until homogeneous without particles. Mix on‑site for immediate use. Do not add extra water for dilution.
  2. Apply with brush or roller. Use multiple thin coats in cross directions; each subsequent coat shall be perpendicular to the previous one. Single heavy‑coat application is forbidden to avoid cracking and incomplete curing.
  3. Apply the next coat only when the previous one is surface‑dry and non‑tacky. Interval: 2‑4 h at normal temperature.
  4. Total dry‑film thickness for bathroom ≥1.5 mm, apply in 2‑3 coats. Theoretical consumption: approx. 2.0‑2.4 kg/㎡. Waterproof height for walls: ≥1.8 m for shower area; ≥300 mm for other wall sections.

4. Curing, Water‑Closing Test & Protective Work

  1. After completion of full construction, cure naturally for 24‑48 h at normal temperature. Extend curing period under low‑temperature and poor‑ventilation conditions. No treading or water splashing before full curing.
  2. Perform water‑closing test only after full curing. Water depth: 20‑30 mm, keep for 24‑48 h. Pass the test if no leakage occurs on the ceiling of lower floor.
  3. After passing water‑closing test, construct cement mortar protective layer or directly lay tiles with suitable tile adhesive.

5. Construction Notes

  1. Suitable construction temperature: 5℃‑35℃. Do not construct in rainy weather or heavy‑dew environment with extremely poor ventilation.
  2. Use mixed slurry within pot life. Discard solidified clotted slurry; do not reuse by adding water.
  3. Avoid missing or insufficient coating. Ensure full coverage at corners and pipe roots.
  4. No chiseling or piercing by sharp objects after waterproof layer completion. Repair any damaged areas thoroughly.
  5. Storage: Protect liquid component from frost and sunlight; keep powder component moisture‑proof.
